Some people got really bent out of shape, going so far as to threaten to boycott, over the design (or lack there of) for the holiday cups that Starbucks is now offering. We asked Facebook what they thought:

The Rob & Kat Mykals took to Facebook to find out what everyone thought about the new Starbucks cups.

This year’s iconic red Starbucks cup features a two-toned ombré design, with a bright poppy color on top that shades into a darker cranberry below.

It goes without saying that this Starbucks controversy is overblown to say the least. And, like I said yesterday, it's a stupid thing to be upset about. However, I've come to another conclusion over the past 24 hours. I'm starting to think it's a joke that people aren't getting. Sure, maybe the first several people to voice their complaints were legit, but now that this has become so sensationalized, I think most of the "outraged tweets" are phony. I think people are jumping on board and subtly pointing out the absurdity of the initial outrage. I bet you MOST of the tweets about this are now sarcastic. Everybody who's tweeting about how stupid people are for being upset are actually just not getting the joke.

The fact that anyone could be offended by a red and green cup is beyond me. Red and green are colors indicative of Christmas and the holiday season. From a design perspective, it is called minimalism. It's a style. In no way does the lack of snowflakes, reindeer, snowmen, Christmas trees or any other design element suggest that Starbucks has "waged a war on Christmas." It simply means they went with a minimalist design. Nothing more. All of the outrage from those who are truly offended by this seems to be misplaced. Perhaps a nice iced Venti Vanilla Chai Latte would make them feel better.  Those cups are clear.
