Delightful Sunflower Farm in Newburgh Only Open for a Short Season
When did Fake Flowers Get So Expensive?
Last year for the fair, my daughter had this grand idea to deck out her horse's stall with a sunflower and red bandana theme. Super cute, right?
Off we went to the craft store, thinking we'd snag a cheap bouquet of fake flowers—nothing too fancy. But, oh boy, were we in for a surprise. They had these bouquets that looked so real they could almost fool a bee, but they were crazy expensive! We ended up reluctantly grabbing two tiny, not-so-convincing bouquets for a whopping $20, and that was with a 50% discount. I was thinking, "Seriously?" Fresh flowers would've been my preference, but they wouldn't last a week on a stall, so we went with what we had. Kinda broke my heart a little.
Sunflower Farm in Newburgh, IN
Anyway, as we were admiring sunflower pics later, I discovered there's this gorgeous sunflower farm just a hop and skip away in Warrick County. I gave them a ring and spoke with Megan Klenck, the owner/operator at The Red Barn Farm. Turns out, she planted that field during COVID as a pollinator haven, but folks went nuts over it. Now, it's her fifth year as an Agritourism spot, inviting the public to come snap pics and pick their own blooms. Megan said it's been a sweet little homegrown business for her.
