Top Things to Do in St. Louis, According to a Local
Planning a trip to St. Louis? Here are 5 things you can't miss!
This lively city is packed with unique experiences, from thrilling sporting events to world-class attractions and mouthwatering local eats. Here are five highlights that will make your trip unforgettable..
1. Experience St. Louis Gameday
St. Louis lives and breathes sports. Whether it's baseball season (April-October) or hockey season (October-April), you'll find passionate fans and electric atmospheres. Catch a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium and see why everyone calls it "baseball heaven". With great views, a downtown location, and classic baseball energy, it's a can't-miss experience. Not visiting during baseball season? No problem. Watch the Blues take ice at the Enterprise Center, where fast-paced action and loyal fans fill the arena. Even if you're not a diehard sports fan, the food, the crowd, and traditions make it a memorable outing. I am personally a huge sports fan (although not of the STL teams...) and I have attended a ton of games! Just last week I went to the game when the Chicago Blackhawks were in town and it was the best evening! My family enjoyed some great snacks and had a great time enjoying the game and environment!
2. Roam wild at the St. Louis Zoo
The St. Louis Zoo is not just any zoo, it's consistently ranked among the best in the nation and one of the top free zoos in the country. Nestled in scenic Forest Park, it's home to over 16,000 animals representing more than 600 species. Plan your visit early to avoid crowds, and check the calendar for any special events during your stay! Speaking of special events...my family and I just went last week for the Zootoberfest and had such a great day! It was perfect fall weather for us and we enjoyed some tasty German themed food and beverages, while seeing all of our favorite animals! Some of our favorite animals to see are the giraffes, elephants, and bears, but we love them all!
3. See the city from the top of the Gateway Arch
No trip to St. Louis is complete without a visit to the city's most iconic landmark. Standing 630 feet tall, the Gateway Arch is the tallest monument in the U.S., offering unbeatable panoramic views of the Mississippi River and downtown skyline. Beneath the Arch, explore a beautifully designed museum about America's westward expansion and browse the gift shop. Feeling adventurous? Take a ride to the top for incredible photos and breathtaking city views.
4. Explore the Wild Side of Art and Science
St. Louis is home to two of the most uniquely interactive attractions that bring out the kid in everyone: the Saint Louis Science Center and the City Museum. The Science Center features 700+ interactive exhibits, a planetarium, and an IMAX theater, all with free general admission. Nearby, the City Museum is a one-of-a-kind playground made from reclaimed materials. Climb, slide, and explore this wildly creative space that delights both kids and adults.
5. Savor the flavors of St. Louis
St. Louis has its own flavor, literally. From gooey to crispy to cheesy, the local food scene is one you'll want to taste your way through. Must-tries include toasted ravioli, St. Louis style pizza, and gooey butter cake. Some of the best spots to enjoy these local staples include Imo's Pizza, Pappy's Smokehouse, Park Avenue Coffee, and Charlie Gitto's. My personal favorite dish of our local flavors has to be gooey butter. It is delish whether in cake or cookie form, but all of these are a must try!
