Owensboro T-Shirt Treasure Found in Small Town Alabama
The Big Dipper is one of Owensboro's iconic landmarks. Locally owned and operated since 1954, it is a gem of our local food scene.
I remember when I was away at college in Louisville, someone had even started a Facebook support group for everyone who lived away from OBKY. We desperately missed burgers through the garden, pigs in blankets, chili, and tater gems. Not to mention the shakes and ice cream!
Once upon a time, the sign of a true Owensboroan was whether or not they kept Dipper cash in their wallet. Now that they accept cards as payment, it is a whole new ballgame! We stop there all the time for a little treat. My current favorite is the Fruity Pebbles flurry, trust me, so good.
My friends who still live in other parts of the world, always make it a point to visit the Dipper whenever they are in town for the holidays or a family get-together. Speaking of other parts of the world, just the other day, our Dipper friends got the coolest surprise! A man from Alabama happened to be thrifting in a little town called Gurley at the Care Center Thrift Store.
Tom Kozar, a treasure hunter, found a vintage Big Dipper t-shirt. If you are a thrifter or appreciate vintage t-shirts, you will understand why a single-stitch hem is worth noticing. The tag is also a tell-tale sign of a shirt's age. Now, Tom hunts for clothing treasures to resell, a hustle that has become rather popular these days. He could have purchased this find and then flipped it for who knows how much online.
Instead, he took the time to research "Big Dipper Owensboro, KY," typed out this letter, packaged the shirt (that just so happens to still be great quality), and sent it to W. Parrish Ave. He also apparently looked over the mouth-watering menu as he mentioned what he will order if he ever gets to visit.
Tom, if you ever find yourself in Owensboro, holler at me and I will treat you to some chili for this wonderful act of kindness. You'll get a taste of how much the Dipper means to us here! It's an iconic landmark for a reason.

Now I'm craving a pig in a blanket!
