If you are one of the 10% of Americans that are allergic to cats but find them too cute to stay away from, there might be some good news for you! Swiss scientist are currently working on a 'cat vaccine' that would reduce or altogether prevent allergic reactions to cat dander.

According to a report in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, "HypoCat", the vaccine for cats, would minimize their secretions of the Fel d 1 allergen which is found in cat dander. When a person who is allergic, inhales this allergen that is floating in the air anywhere a cat is usually present, it causes the body's immune system to react.

Being a cat owner myself, this would definitely come in handy. There are members of my family that sometimes visit that have allergies to cats. I would love to not have to put my cat in another room or do some major vacuuming every time they come over.

If all goes well, scientists believe this vaccine could available within the next three years.
