Indiana Baseball Stadium to Recreate Iconic Movie
Rewatching Old Movies
Every so often, I get an itch to rewatch some of my old favorite movies, and my latest pick was A League of Their Own. Not only do I love being transported back in time, but the movie was also filmed right here in the tri-state.

Even though the film came out in 1992, you can still find pieces of it around the area. We don’t often get major motion pictures filming here, so it was a big deal when Evansville and Huntingburg were chosen, mostly for their historic baseball stadiums.
Bosse Field, which served as the home field for the Racine Belles in the movie, opened in 1915 and is the third-oldest ballpark still in use for professional baseball. It's only surpassed by Fenway Park (1912) in Boston and Wrigley Field (1914) in Chicago. Tom Hanks, who is on record as saying that A League of Their Own was his favorite film to make because of his time spent in the tri-state with his family, even tweeted a Happy Birthday to Bosse Field on its 100th anniversary.
League Stadium in Huntingburg, built in 1894, has also been featured in both A League of Their Own and Soul of the Game. It served as the home field for the Rockford Peaches in the movie.

Love the Movie? Be a Part of the Action
If you’re a fan of the movie or just want to see some girls’ professional baseball, you’ll get your chance this July. League Stadium will be hosting a reenactment exhibition game between the Racine Belles and the Rockford Peaches.
I caught up with Justin Knepp, marketing manager for the Bombers. He told me that the game always sells out.
"The Peaches vs. Belles game is an annual tradition during each Bombers season, almost always hosted the 2nd weekend of July. It's one of our favorite nights since it pays homage to the movie that made our stadium famous. The game always sells out and always hosts fans from all over the world (literally). "A League of Their Own" is one of the all time sports movie classics. Hosting this re-enactment game (before a Bombers game) isn't just fun for baseball fans and history fans. It's also fun for movie fans, which is why it's such a special night for so many."
A League of Their Own Night: Peaches vs. Belles will take place on Saturday, July 12th, at League Stadium, with the first pitch at 5:30 PM EST. The event will take you back to 1943, when the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) kicked off its inaugural season during World War II. Celebrate this historic moment by watching a re-enactment of the Rockford Peaches vs. the Racine Belles, followed by a Bombers game. Tickets will be available soon!
