Shawn & I went to see Suicide Squad last night. The movie has been getting a lot of negative reviews and I thought I'd add my two cents to the mix.

Most of the reviews for Suicide Squad have been really negative so I wasn't sure what to expect going into the movie. I admittedly am not a big follower of comic book movies. In fact, until recently, I had only seen maybe one or two. Since my boyfriend, Shawn, is really into both Marvel & DC, I have been trying to give them a shot. Incidentally, what I've discovered is that I actually like the comic genre of movies. I still have a lot of movies to catch up on and a lot of backstories to learn, but I'll get there and I'm looking forward to it.

I really didn't know what to expect going in. I assumed that since I don't have a lot experience with superheroes and supervilains that I might enjoy the movie more than the hardcore fans. Turns out, I was right! I loved the movie. I found myself invested in the characters almost immediately, particularly Deadshot (Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). The drama created from the bad guys becoming the good guys was incredible. I did think that I would see more of The Joker (Jared Leto) than I did, but that's ok. The relationship between Joker & Harley, while chaotic and crazy, was actually really sweet to me. There is no doubt that he loves her despite all of his insanities.

Now, the things I didn't care for - If I am being honest, I hated Margot Robbie's accent. I don't know if it was suppose to be a Jersey or Brooklyn accent, but I thought it seemed incredibly artificial. I also didn't like the short duration of the character profiles. They flashed them up on screen with a ton of text but it was impossible to read them before they were gone. For someone with no background with these characters, it was a little frustrating. If I were at home watching on DVD, I would have backed it up & paused it so I could read about each character.

Overall, I loved Suicide Squad. I can't wait to see what DC & Warner Brothers offers us next in the franchise.
