Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and I’ve already stocked up on candy and cards for my family. For us, Valentine’s isn’t about big gifts. Instead, we keep it simple with small treats, takeout, and a cozy night in. After being married for over 10 years, you learn that love isn’t just about one day - it’s something that shows up all year long.

Valentine's Day in the 1980s

But, I can’t help but think back to when I was a kid and how huge Valentine’s Day felt back then. First, we'd make a festive box. I’d spend hours decorating mine with as much glitter and glue as humanly possible. Then, my mom would take me to K-Mart to pick out Valentine’s cards. Horse or cat designs were always my go-to. (Lisa Frank saw me coming.) I’d painstakingly write everyone’s names on the cards, only to mess up and have to redo at least one. It's "Beau Bigger" not "Bo Bigger." Doh!

The big day was always a blast. Back in the 80s, we didn’t end up with sacks of candy and toys like Santa made an appearance, but it was still so fun. We’d hand out cards, run around the classroom, and play games like “Guess Whose Seat This Is?”

What Valentine Would You Get from the State of Indiana?

That got me thinking... what if the State of Indiana handed out Valentine’s cards? I couldn’t resist asking ChatGPT for some help. It came up with really corny sayings, and I’ve been having fun imagining the graphics to match.

Enjoy!

12 Valentine's Day Cards from the State of Indiana

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and while my family keeps it low-key with candy, takeout, and a cozy night in, I can’t help but reminisce about the glitter-filled boxes, Lisa Frank Valentines, and classroom fun that made the holiday feel so magical as a kid—so much so, I started wondering what Indiana-themed Valentines might look like (with a little help from ChatGPT, of course).
