Hush on Main in Evansville to Close After Halloween

It was announced yesterday that one of Evansville's newer bars will be closing its doors after Halloween.

Last year, we were thrilled when Hush on Main, a 1920s-style speakeasy, opened its doors on Evansville's Main Street. Tucked on the lower level of The Marlocon Building at 323 Main Street, guests stepped back in time when they entered. With authentic décor and antique pieces straight out of the days of Prohibition, flappers, and gangsters, it was the perfect place to grab a drink, catch up with friends, and enjoy life for a little while.

The Announcement

Yesterday, Brian Buxton from Fingers Fork Knife and Spoon shared that the bar will be closing its doors on November 5.

"Today, Meier called us to relate that the building and business had been sold, and that Wednesday, November 5th would be their last day of operation."

He added, "The recent sale included the bar, and the new owner is going to close the location to the public to enjoy it privately."

A Personal Connection

The owner, Brendon Meier, is a longtime friend of our family. Before the bar officially opened to the public, we celebrated my husband’s 50th birthday there. There wasn’t enough staff at the time, so I talked Brendon into letting me renew my bartending license and help behind the bar.

I had such a great time that I worked a few more nights at Hush. I quickly found out, though, that I’m no spring chicken, and bartending is definitely best left to those in better shape than me! I did learn how to make an array of authentic 1920s cocktails.
