An Evansville Church Gifts the Community a Stunning Free Performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’
A Christmas Tradition
Last Christmas, my friend Terri posted on Facebook that her church was hosting a free performance of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It's one of my all-time favorite Christmas stories—I even acted in it back in 8th grade, so it holds a special place in my heart. Since tickets were free, I thought, why not make a night of it? I invited my mom, and my daughter brought along her friend.
A Christmas Carol at Bethel Church is Delightful!
The performance was held at Bethel Church on Lincoln Ave, right in their sanctuary. We arrived early and snagged some seats near the front. I wasn’t expecting a Broadway-level production or anything—just something nice to get us in the holiday spirit. But wow, was I wrong!
The performance was stellar. Everything—the costumes, the music, the acting—felt so professional. And the actor who played Ebenezer Scrooge? Absolutely nailed it. That role is no small feat. In just one evening, you have to take the audience on a journey from despising a miserly old grump to genuinely rooting for his transformation. By the end, I went from seeing Scrooge as a heartless miser to feeling like he was a kind, warm-hearted uncle.
All the actors were fantastic. Honestly, it’s hard to believe the church offers this for free to the community—it felt like a show you’d pay to see!
It left such an impression on me that this year, I didn’t wait for Terri’s Facebook post. I texted her to ask when tickets would be available!
