For those, like myself, who have agreed to put down the razor for all of November in an effort to raise awareness for "men's cancers", despite the fact that genetics looks directly in they eye and says, "Really?", here are 20 famous beards you can use to draw inspiration from.

For centuries, a full, thick, and dare I say, surly beard has been a defining mark of a strong man. It means he's full of testosterone, virile, a leader, someone who commands the room, someone other, hairless, men aspire to be. Studies have even shown that women find men with facial hair more attractive. Ever see a clean shaven Viking warrior? Nope. Know why? Because they were weak, kept below the deck of the ship to man the oars that powered the boat.

Before you come at me with, "a real man does this, a real man does that, blah, blah, blah," I realize there's more to being a man than having full, flowing facial hair. Chalk it up to being a guy thing, much like a woman sees another woman's adorable haircut and just has to have the same thing. Anyway, here's the list.
