103-Year-Old Groom and Bride, 91, Become World’s Oldest Newlyweds
From the "age ain't nothin' but a number" file comes this tale of timeless -- and ageless -- love.
A British couple set the record for world's oldest newlyweds when the 103-year-old groom tied the knot with his 91-year-old main squeeze. George Kirby and Doreen Luckie got hitched in Britain on Saturday -- which just happened to be Kirby's birthday.
The lovebirds swapped vows in a ceremony that took place at the hotel where they live. About 50 guests were on hand to witness this most unlikely of weddings and this latest example of seniors taking on surprising roles.
The couple has been dating since 1988, but finally decided to show how committed they are when they got engaged on Valentine's Day. Figuring that sooner is probably better than later when it comes to getting married, they had a brief engagement before walking down the aisle (or, rolling, since he's in a wheelchair).
Even George admitted he needed to make an honest woman out of his bride. "It's about time, really," he said. "Doreen keeps me young and I can definitely say we're going to spend the rest of our lives together."
Now, how long before these two crazy kids decide to start a family?
