I don't think they're trying anymore.

I've noticed a disturbing trend lately during my various trips to Chinese buffets and takeout restaurants. The so-called "fortunes" inside the fortune cookies that come with nearly every meal have deviated from the prognostications they once were. Google defines "fortune" as "chance or luck as an external, arbitrary force affecting human affairs". Somewhere over the course of time, they went away from predicting wealth and good fortune for whomever opened them, to more like general statements about random things.

Take this beauty I received from a takeout place in town. No mention of tripping over a huge pile of money, no mention of meeting someone who will change my life, simply a random thought on a mundane task.
