This past spring was so rainy that I started to wonder if I’d ever see the sun again. But then, around early August, everything flipped, and we found ourselves in drought conditions. According to the US Drought Monitor, "Rainfall departures since August 1 have been nearly 4 inches below average in parts of southern Indiana and around 2-3 inches across central Kentucky." It gets a bit wild during an El Niño or La Niña year! Thankfully, Mother Nature is planning to catch up this week with some good rain. Of course, with that rain comes the risk of severe weather because, well, we live in the Ohio River Valley.

According to the National Weather Service:

A good chance of thunderstorms is forecast throughout the region today and tonight. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns, but a few strong to severe storms with damaging winds cannot be ruled out this afternoon into the early
evening.

Tuesday through Sunday

The chance for thunderstorms will come to an end from west to east across the region Tuesday. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns, but a few strong to severe storms with damaging winds cannot be completely ruled out over west Kentucky and southwest Indiana in the afternoon.

A chance of thunderstorms returns to the forecast late Wednesday night and continues through Friday evening. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns.
