Rock Bridge Trail in Kentucky is a Cornucopia of Natural Wonders
A Nature Lover's Dream
Despite its shorter length, the trail is packed full of Kentucky wonder.
According to the website, Rock Bridge Trail:
is a paved loop trail that descends into a deep ravine with towering hemlock trees and dense rhododendron understory. This trail is located in the Red River Gorge on the Cumberland District of the Daniel Boone National Forest.
Capturing Kentucky's Natural Beauty
Sharon Lynn Cooper, an Ohio resident, made the trip to Kentucky and shared photos of her experience of the trail in the Hikers of Red River Gorge Facebook group.
"That trip to the Gorge was like a spiritual finding, it was great to be around all that beauty and be able to take in all of these amazing things that we have in our world to enjoy," Cooper told me.
According to the website, the trail only spans 1.3 miles, however, Cooper describes it as "difficult." If you're willing and able to take on some rugged hiking, the views are totally worth it!
Scenic Overlooks and Beautiful Stone Formations
One of the wondrous parts of the trail is the intricate stone formations that can be seen along the route. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they show a glimpse into Kentucky's rich natural history.
These stunning rocky crags are complemented by scenic overlooks and the calming sounds of a running creek.
The Serene Rock "Bridge"
The most spectacular treat the Rock Bridge trail offers is the stunning "bridge" formed of stone that stands over the creek. According to the trail's website:
Hikers enjoy the tranquil setting near Rock Bridge, a natural standstone arch that spans across the creek. This arch is the only "bridge" in the Red River Gorge over water. A small waterfall upstream provides an ideal spot for some quiet time with nature.
Flowing Waterfalls
Aside from the scenic views and beautiful bridge, visitors can enjoy running waterfalls as they serenade their adventure.
