When I checked my weather app and saw we’d be enjoying temps in the 70s all week, I could hardly contain my excitement! I’m definitely not a fan of the cold and snow, and after this winter, Mother Nature really threw a lot of it our way.

But of course, it seems like beautiful weather around here is always followed by some crazy weather, and this week is no exception. Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart from Eyewitness News 25 mentioned that the chance for severe weather has bumped up to a concerning level.

From The National Weather Service:

Details are coming together regarding the potential for severe thunderstorms impacting the region late Friday night through Saturday. There look to be two potential rounds of storms.

The first round will impact southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and far western Kentucky late Friday into early Saturday morning. At this time, the severe thunderstorm potential will exist with a line of thunderstorms that will move from west to east, with the main threats being damaging gusts and tornadoes.

The second round of storms look to impact parts of southwest Indiana and the Kentucky Pennyrile beginning mid to late morning Saturday into the mid afternoon hours. These storms will also have the potential to become severe, with damaging wind, tornadoes, and large hail all possible. -National Weather Service

SPC has expanded the ENHANCED (level 3 of 5) risk for severe storms across most of #tristatewx for Friday night. The upgrade is due to increasing confidence for the potential of excessively strong straight-line winds (70 mph+) along with a few embedded tornadoes within the line of storms. The line is expected to move into our western counties around 8pm and then begin to weaken as it approaches the US 41 corridor before clearing our eastern counties around 2am. - Wayne Hart, Eyewitness News 25
