The Indianapolis Star reports Colts linebacker, 26-year-old Edwin Jackson, was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a suspected drunk driver while standing outside a stopped vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.

According to the report, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Indiana State Police investigators believe Jackson and 54-year-old Jeffery Monroe of Avon, Indiana pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway after Jackson became ill. Both men were standing outside of the vehicle when they were struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Alex Cabrera Gonsales of Indianapolis who attempted to flee the scene on foot before being captured by police. He was taken to the Marion County Jail to be tested for intoxication. Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine told the Indianapolis Star Gonsales was driving without a license.

Perrine also stated they believe Monroe was a “ride-sharing operator.” He was also declared dead on the scene.
