Illinois Raises Smoking Age to 21

Effective July 1, the legal age to smoke and purchase tobacco in the state of Illinois has been raised to 21. 

Thew new law includes the sale of cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco and nicotine-based products, including e-cigs and vape pens, to anyone under 21.

And that's not all.

The state has also raised the price of cigarettes $1 per pack, and e-cigarettes will be taxed an additional 15%, according to WEHT Eyewitness News.

Illinois makes the 8th state to raise the legal smoking age to 21, thanks to Gov. Pritzker.

Previously, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell sponsored a bill to raise the federal age of smoking and purchasing tobacco to 21. That bill has yet to be voted on.
