The Evansville Department of Parks and Recreation invite the public out for a day of free swimming and food at Garvin Pool.

The "Splash Into Summer" event began yesterday with collection drives at both the east and west side Walmart locations encouraging the public to donate pool toys, floats, and more that will be distributed evenly to city pools for use by patrons this season.

It continues later today beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a free swimming event and cookout for the public at Garvin Pool next to Bosse Field. Bring your appetite and your swim gear, and get ready to enjoy a couple of hours in the sun. And don't worry, if you get in the pool before the 30 minute mark after you eat, we won't say anything.

The event wraps up at 1:00 p.m.
