Does a Sex Offender Live Near Your Child’s Bus Stop? Here’s How to Find Out

With kids heading back to school this week, it's a good time to talk to them about Stranger Danger.

Sex offenders are not allowed to reside near schools, but there is no restriction when it comes to Bus Stops.So, I decided to do a quick search, to see if there were any sex offenders in my neighborhood. Wow! There are 11 registered offenders within 2 miles of my house. Even though you may not live next to a registered offender, it's a good idea to search your neighborhood, and see if there are any close to your child's bus stop.

The Vanderburgh county Sheriff's Office provides a free online search program called OffenderWatch. You can even register your address, and receive an email alert, if a registered offender moves into your neighborhood.
