DCPS Surveying Possible In-Person Graduation for Class of 2020
Back in May, Apollo High School, Daviess County High School, and Heritage Park High School held drive-through graduation ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Daviess County Public Schools are now sending out surveys asking if parents, families, and students if there is sufficient enough interest in holding in-person graduations for the classes of 2020. The in-person ceremonies would include student speakers and the distribution of congratulations letters.
If a third or more of the Seniors' families are interested, DCPS has set up a schedule of dates for the in-person ceremonies:
Daviess County HS--Tuesday, July 28th at 8:30 p.m. at the football stadium (rain date, July 30th).
Heritage Park HS--Tuesday, August 4th at 8:30 p.m. at the Apollo High football stadium (rain date August 5th).
Apollo HS--Thursday, August 6th at 8:30 p.m. at their football stadium (rain date August 7th).
Survey links are being emailed to families with a deadline of 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 13th to respond.
Additional information from DCPS:
The programs are expected to last no more than one hour. Each senior will be asked to limit the number of guests in attendance. This number will be communicated to families based on survey results to ensure the ability to maintain safe physical distancing in stadiums. Everyone in attendance will be required to wear a face covering while arriving and leaving the facility. Family members may remove masks during the ceremony but graduates will be required to wear a mask throughout the program. Individuals who are experiencing symptoms of illness should not attend.
In order for students to participate in the graduation ceremony, they will be required to wear their mask along with their cap and gown. Graduates will receive a certificate acknowledging their achievements as a member of the Class of 2020. Names of all students in attendance will be announced as the seniors receive these certificates.
