Local non-profit, Youth First, is inviting you to join them ahead of kick off between at Friday night's Castle versus Mater Dei game as they shine a spotlight on suicide awareness and prevention.

The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Castle High School and will feature t-shirts and other items for sale to benefit Youth Resources. An awareness walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. around the track to offer hope to those affected by suicide as well as a balloon release and fireworks.

According to the Castle Football Facebook page, 40 young people took their own lives in Vanderburgh and Warrick County combined last year. That count is already up to 37 for 2017.

Proceeds from the event will help Youth First hire additional social workers area schools can use to offer students a sympathetic ear and advice if they have suicidal thoughts, or know someone who does.
