Why Eggs and Bunnies on Easter?
Being the extra inquisitive kid that he is, my son asked me "what's with eggs and bunnies on Easter Dad?“ So I told him that Easter hasn't always been about Jesus' resurrection. It started as a celebration of the coming of Spring.
According to many cultures like the Ancient Babylonian, Egyptians, and others, the eggs symbolizes the rebirth of nature in the spring, and the bunny represents fertility or having lots of babies! Seriously...
According to my research, the word "Easter" is from Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring, Ostera or Eostre, for whom a spring festival was held annually...and from the Babylonian goddess of spring, Ishtar.
When Christianity became widespread, all pagan holidays were converted with Christian overtones but were and still are celebrated, i.e. Christmas, but that's another blog.... HAPPY EASTER!
