Owensboro Church's Living Last Supper Interactive Worship Event

Whether you identify as Christian or not, chances are you're familiar with the Last Supper, a significant event described in the New Testament and depicted in all four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This pivotal story recounts Jesus's final meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. During this intimate gathering, he broke bread and shared wine with them, symbolizing his body and blood, which he explained would be sacrificed for the forgiveness of sins. Additionally, Jesus predicted Judas Iscariot's betrayal, Peter's denial, and his own impending death.

What Was The Last Supper Like?

Visualizing historical scenes like this can sometimes be challenging. Most of the time when you think about "The Last Supper" you think about Da Vinci's iconic painting of the same name. I always thought to myself, surely not everyone sat on one side of the table and faced the wall! In reality, it was likely a more casual setting, perhaps resembling a picnic table with heated discussions taking place all around.

One Owensboro church is going to help community members understand what the actual dinner was like. Pleasant Grove Baptist Church is hosting an interactive worship experience of The Last Supper.

Join us for an interactive worship experience as we take a look back to an upper room where Jesus met with his closest followers to partake of the Passover seder meal and transformed its meaning forever. Come and hear the twelve disciples around the table. Witness a live reenactment of this famous historical depiction by Leonardo da Vinci. Observe the disciples' stories, hear their concerns, and witness their dedication in following Jesus.

The seder meal had been a historical object lesson for God's people for centuries, declaring of God's faithfulness through deliverance. However, on this night, in the upper room Jesus not only remembered what God had done but told of a greater sacrifice that was to come.

You and your family will be seated at tables throughout our sanctuary and served the symbolic elements of the Passover seder. We will all walk through the meaning of this meal from the upper room as instructed throughout the production.

Food is not a full meal but rather smaller portions of each element as we discover and taste the meaning of this story
