Where to Find Sandbags in Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky to Protect Your Home from ‘Catastrophic’ Flooding
We are in for a monster storm that is predicted to bring long-track EF3 tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail to the tri-state. In fact, parts of the tri-state are under a level 5 HIGH risk for severe weather and TORCON level 7 for tornadoes today.
Oh, and it's also going to bring torrential rainfall. So much that parts of the tri-state could get up to 15 inches which could be catastrophic.
In an earlier post, the Warrick County Storm Water Department warned on Facebook that local subdivisions were not designed to withstand this kind of water.
Citizens of Warrick County, especially the Newburgh area. Please prepare for this rain storm. With the amount they are calling for, none of us have seen this much rain in 20+ years and most subdivisions are NOT designed to get rains like these. Please be proactive and make sure drainage ways (ditch/easements) are clear from debris or blockages (landscaping, debris, fences, planting, etc.) in the easements.
Emergency Management Offices and local businesses are banding together to provide sandbags to residents who need them. Here's where you can find them.

*Please note dates and times as the rain will be forecasted for the entire weekend. Want to add to this list? Email me right here.
Mulzer Crushed Stone, Inc. is providing FREE sand to support our communities in response to the expected flooding. Check out the designated locations for pickup. Remember to bring a shovel and bags, as supplies are limited. Sand will be accessible 24/7 until the waters recede. Residents can reach out to their local EMA offices for bags. For more details on locations, please visit our link: https://mulzer.com/locations/mulzer
The sandbags are the typical white “empty” string tie top style bags.We will provide instructions on how to fill them and how to build a small dam or levee. All we ask is for a name of the resident, address of the location, and how many you required, we will get reimbursed later by Indiana Department of Homeland Security for replacement bags. You will not need to call our office to participate in this operation. Arrive at this location and time and you will get sandbags.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO UPDATE THIS POST AS MORE SANDBAG STATIONS BECOME AVAILABLE.
How to Prepare for a Flood
According to ready.gov, there are a few things you can do to prepare.
1. Make a manageable go-bag. You need something that you can easily carry if there is a flood. Include important documents, food, water, medications, phone charger, pet items, and a change of clothes. Move important items to the highest level of your home or off-site.
2. Make a family plan. Decide where to go in the event your family is separated and communications are down.
3. Move to higher ground. If you are at home, go to the highest level you can. Do not try to drive though flood waters.
4. Listen to EAS, NOAA Weather Radio or local alerting systems for current emergency information and instructions regarding flooding.
5. Keep storm drains clear of debris. Sandbag if necessary.
