Last week I had the opportunity to see the Horse & Pony Club's Drill Team perform at the 98th Vanderburgh Co. Fair!

They typically perform before the bigger events in the evening at the grand stands. They have been doing this for many years and they always have an impressive pattern!

Carmen Hurley, owner of Night Sun Stables, heads up the drill team keeps all the girls and their horses in line (with the help of several parents and other volunteers). Each year the team learns and performs a new pattern, with a new song, and even some new riders! This year they overcame several last minute changes due to illness and the crazy weather (some days were so hot)!

Mariah Hurley, Carmen's daughter, lead the drill team this year with her horse Nitro. It amazes me to see all these horses and girls so in sync. Each rider holds an American Flag in one hand and reins in the other while continuously performing a pattern. If that sounds like a lot, it is! These girls practice all summer and spend the week of the fair showing their horses individually and still performing in front of a crowd almost every night. The girls even go all out and decorate their stalls! Lights and all!

Night Sun Stables is located in Evansville, IN and offers "boarding, training, leasing, trail rides, lessons for all ages and disciples, birthday parties, girls scout badges and camps!" Carmen has created a wonderful place for anyone who loves horse from beginners to advanced.

Of course I had to get a photo of our EPD Mounted Patrol, Blondie & Speck!
