The Rob’s MTV VMA Predictions
Yesterday, MTV released their nominees for their upcoming Video Music Award show. In my opinion, this is the biggest night in music. Here are their nominees and I will share my predictions underneath each category:
Video of the Year:
- Justin Timberlake - "Mirrors"
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz - "Thrift Shop"
- Bruno Mars - "Locked Out of Heaven"
- Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell - "Blurred Lines"
- Taylor Swift - "I Knew You Were Trouble"
There are some big songs in the category. However, the biggest song also happens to be the most-talked about and best song in the category. I actually expect Robin Thicke to take home the night's biggest honors for Blurred Lines
Best Female Video:
- Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko - "Stay"
- Taylor Swift - "I Knew You Were Trouble"
- Miley Cyrus - "We Can't Stop"
- Pink feat. Nate Ruess - "Just Give Me a Reason"
- Demi Lovato - "Heart Attack"
One video on this list jumped out at me as being a clear choice to win... I have a lot of faith that Stay will win the moonman in this category. Deservedly so.
Best Male Video:
- Justin Timberlake - "Mirrors"
- Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell - "Blurred Lines"
- Bruno Mars - "Locked Out of Heaven"
- Ed Sheeran - "Lego House"
- Kendrick Lamar, "Swimming Pools (Drank)"
I think Robin Thicke is going to have a good night at the MTV Video Music Awards. I think Blurred Linesdeserves this one, although a win for Mirrors wouldn't surprise me either. I expect one to win this award, and the other to win the aforementioned Video of the Year Award.
Best Pop Video:
- Bruno Mars - "Locked Out of Heaven"
- Justin Timberlake - "Mirrors"
- Fun - "Carry On"
- Miley Cyrus - "We Can't Stop"
- Selena Gomez - "Come and Get It"
I think Justin Timberlake's Mirrors deserves this one.
Best Hip-Hop Video:
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - "Can't Hold Us"
- Drake - "Started From the Bottom"
- Kendrick Lamar - "Swimming Pools (Drank)"
- ASAP Rocky feat. Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar - "Problems"
- J. Cole feat. Miguel - "Power Trip"
There are some really good nominees this year for Best Rap Video... But if ASAP Rocky, Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar don't win, we've got a "Problem."
Best Rock Video:
- Imagine Dragons - "Radioactive"
- Fall Out Boy - "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)"
- Mumford & Sons - "I Will Wait"
- Thirty Seconds to Mars - "Up in the Air"
- Vampire Weekend - "Diane Young"
I said on the air this morning that I expected Fall Out Boy's My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark to win, but the more time that goes by, the more I think Imagine Dragons' Radioactive might win. I wouldn't even count out Mumford & Sons' I Will Wait... But it's not fair for me to call three songs. Fall Out Boy feels like the "MTV" choice, although Imagine Dragons may deserve it more.
Best Video with a Social Message:
- Kelly Clarkson - "People Like Us"
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert - "Same Love"
- Snoop Lion feat. Drake and Cori B. - "No Guns Allowed"
- Miguel - "Candles in the Sun"
- Beyoncé - "I Was Here"
This is the one no-brainer of the bunch... Same Love will win.
Best Collaboration:
- Justin Timberlake, feat. Jay-Z - "Suit & Tie"
- Pitbull feat. Christina Aguilera - "Feel This Moment"
- Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding - "I Need Your Love"
- Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell - "Blurred Lines"
- Pink feat. Nate Ruess - "Just Give Me a Reason"
While I feel Blurred Lines deserves it most and is truly the best video this category, my gut is telling me MTV will pick JT & JZ Suit & Tie
