Over the past two days I’ve brought you what I feel were the 10 best songs that came out in 2012.  While I do feel those songs are great, there has also been an awful lot of really STUPID songs that came out this year as well.

A DUMB song does NOT mean a bad song.  In fact, I like most of the songs on this list.  But some of these songs are downright stupid!  I’ll explain why I think each song deserves a spot on this list.  Without further ado, here are The Rob’s 5 dumbest songs of 2012!

#5 Pink – Blow Me (One Last Kiss):

I’ll give you a moment to recover from the laughter you’re surely experiencing because of that title.  Get it?  See what she did there?  She made the title a dirty play on words.  I consider this one of the most overrated songs of 2012, brought to fame mostly a goofy title that wouldn’t even make a 13-year-old boy snicker.  Plus, she technically spells her name with an exclamation point (P!nk)…  THAT is stupid!

#4 LMFAO – Sorry For Party Rocking:

I’m going to be honest, LMFAO is not one of my favorite bands.  First of all, their name induces that same douchey feeling I feel when I say the title of the last Pink song.  Secondly, in 2011 their two big hits were incredibly stuffed down our throughts, “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know it.”  I couldn’t stand those records.  Their big contribution in 2012 was a song that claimed to be apologizing for their god-awful music the year before…  “Sorry For Party Rocking.”  Upon listening to this track, though, I found that they were NOT in fact ‘sorry for party rocking,’ and it was actually TRYING TO GET PEOPLE PARTY ROCKING MORE THAN THEY ALREADY WERE!  I will never be fooled again by LMFAO’s dirty tricks.

#3 Drake feat. Lil Wayne – The Motto:

This one is going to take some explaining.  Unlike the previous two entries, I definitely LIKE this song.  It’s definitely a definitive Drake track, it’s fun to sing along to and pretend like I’m hard.  But this song had a profound and, well, DUMB impact on society and social media.  How, you ask?  One word: YOLO.  While it was when Drake and Wayne used the abbreviation for “you only live once,” it’s NOT cool when you see it on T-shirts and in 1 out of 10 posts in my newsfeed…  #DUMB

#2 Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe:

Again, I don’t hate this song.  Was it my favorite?  No.  But in many ways, it’s a brilliant pop song.  What was DUMB about the song was how many ridiculous and absurd (and usually unfunny) parodies this song inspired.  15 years from now, people will regard this song the same way we currently regard Aqua’s “Barbie Girl.”

#1 Psy- Gangnam Style:

This should be a surprise to nobody.  This song is SO dumb that it is currently the most viewed video in the history of YouTube!  If you thought Carly Rae Jepsen had an inordinate amount of parodies, Psy’s got her beat for sure!  Plus, Psy’s song is relatively new, coming out really only a few months ago…  “Call Me Maybe” had, like, a four month head start!  Additionally, nobody knows what this Korean-language song is talking about.  BUT, the #1 reason why this is THE DUMBEST song of the year is quite easily that it has an organized dance that everybody does.  I can’t tell you how much I hate organized dances like “Cupid Shuffle,” “The Electric Slide,” and “Macarena.”  Here’s a secret to everybody who’s on the dancefloor during any of those organized dances…  You.  Look.  Stupid.
