Holiday World offers something fun and different through October.

It's no secret I'm a huge fan of Holiday World...  I've been there five times in the last four months!  Normally, Holiday World would be closed until next season, but for the second year in a row Holiday World has been open for their Happy Halloween Weekends!  I got a chance to go on Saturday, and wanted to give a quick review of what I experienced.

Of course it's the same Holiday World park that you know and love.  The park has been revamped with Halloween decorations and some rides' names have been slightly altered to reflect the season, like "The Spookler" instead of "The Sparkler" and what have you.  All of the rides were up and running, except obviously Splashin' Safari is closed for the season.

HoliDog's 3D adventure is a home-run.  It's a family-friendly haunted house, but what sets it apart is that you wear 3D glasses and the effect is very successful, messing with your head and your depth perception.  You'll be laughing, not scared, the entire time.

This was the first year that the Mummy's Treasure Maze was open.  This was set up to look like an Egyptian Pyramid or tomb.  The keepers of the crypt give you a piece of paper with a riddle on it, and the answers are hidden throughout the tomb.  Proper answers can result in free Holiday World tickets!

After that, we decided to try some of the season-specific attractions.  We took a hayride out to the GIANT corn maze.  Being in the corn maze was so much fun.  The size of this maze cannot be described in words and needs to be experienced to fully understand.  It's actually quite complex and easy to get lost in if you don't follow your map.  There are even stations set up with flags to wave if you do, in fact, get lost.  Holiday World employees will come rescue you.  You could very easily spend over an hour in this corn maze and enjoy yourself, like I did.

After our hayride back, we enjoyed some dinner in still-good-as-ever Kringle Kafe and even enjoyed a magic show from Evansville's own Don Bagget.  We then made our way over to see "Graveyard Smash," a Glee-style performance that blended modern songs from artists like Ke$ha and Fall Out Boy, with old Halloween classics like "Thriller."  The lyrics have all been slightly parodied to reflect the Halloween motif.  It was very high-energy and a lot of fun.

The Voyage is probably my favorite roller coaster in the entire world.  I've ridden it probably close to three-dozen times in 6 years.  But I have to say, riding the Voyage in the dark was probably my favorite experience I've ever had on a roller coaster in my entire life!  It was like a completely different ride, and despite being so familiar with it, I was unable to see or predict what was coming up next.  I just loved it.

Before we left, at 8:00 the Laser Light Show began.  The show blended Halloween classic songs like "Monster Mash" and "Ghostbusters," all while projecting laser images onto a screen and into the crowd.  It's another attraction you need to experience to fully understand what's going on, but it was a very cool show that I'm glad I hung around for.
