Making sure your child's car seat is properly secured during car rides is key to making sure they stay safe in the event of an accident. However, it sometimes feels like you need a degree in rocket science in order to do it. Fortunately, members of the Ohio Township Fire Department in Newburgh are happy to help with free car seat fittings every Wednesday.

The free fittings are possible thanks to a partnership with Deaconess Gateway Hospital and take place every Wednesday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the fire station located at 4333 Epworth Road, just south of the Deaconess Gateway campus.

Fittings are by appointment only and can be scheduled through the Deaconess Gateway website. Parents are encouraged to bring the child who uses the car seat with them so firefighters can ensure proper fitting with the child in the seat. There is also a strong possibility firefighters will need to climb into the backseat as part of the fitting so be sure to have whatever has collected back there out of the way.
