McDonald’s Recalls 29 Million “Step It” Wristbands Included in Happy Meals
Fast food giant, McDonald's issued a voluntary recall on Wednesday of 29 million "Step It" activity bands the company had been including in Happy Meals across the country after reports the toy was responsible for skin irritation, and in some cases, burns on children.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, McDonald's received "more than 70 reports of incidents, including seven reports of blisters" from customers whose children were wearing the plastic step counter.
The Commission went on to state both the "Activity Counter" and motion-activated "Light-Up Band" are affected by the recall. Both styles have a square face with the words “STEP-iT” printed on them and a button to depress and activate the wristband. The back of the square face contains the etched words “Made for McDonald’s.”
Customers are strongly encouraged to take the bands away from their children immediately and asked to return the product to any McDonald's location where they will be exchanged for a different toy, or a free tube of yogurt or bag of apple slices.
