Huge Snake Discovered in IN Lake

Previously in this space, I have mentioned that I don't fish. It's not because I don't like it; I just don't have the equipment. I've only ever done it twice, and the biggest menace I faced were great big turtles that didn't want me catching their dinner.

I never encountered a snake either time I dipped a line in the water. In fact, despite my fear of them, I have rarely had run-ins with snakes. Even during many trips to the southwest, it only happened once. And that's more than enough.

Even though they weren't fishing, Amber Conley and Brad Walton did find themselves "fishing" something enormous and unpleasant from Brookville Lake in Union County, Indiana. I might not exactly give up boating after a startling discovery like the one they made, but I'm inclined to agree with Amber's "side note."

So, yeah, the best part of all this, from their standpoint--and, I guess anybody's really--is that that massive serpent is dead. But no, I'd find a new place to fish. (Don't think I'd give up the boat, though.)

COULD THE LARGE SNAKE HAVE CHOKED ON THE FISH?

The couple was boating when they noticed what they thought was a big piece of wood until they got closer. What acrobatics their brains must have performed when they saw that it definitely WAS NOT a piece of wood.

And how unusual for the snake to still have the fish in its mouth. Like me, they're guessing the big fella choked on the fish.

While that does seem like an unusually large snake for an Indiana lake--who am I kidding; it IS--it's not UNUSUAL for enormous ones to pop up outside of where you might expect them...like a swamp for example.

BIG SNAKES MAKE FOR NASTY SURPRISES AROUND THE COUNTRY

Three years ago, in North Carolina, a man found an incredibly long snake in his backyard. But he recognized it as a harmless rat snake. It was, however, the biggest one he says he'd ever seen. I'll say; look at this thing.

And it was 11 years ago when a giant timber rattler was discovered enjoying a swim in Kentucky Lake.

And here we are going into the warmest months of the year. It's always nice to have reminders like these to be very careful before dipping your toe in a body of water that isn't chlorinated.

Snakes don't like chlorine, right?
