Millions of Thermos Containers Recalled After Injuries
Millions of Thermos food jars and beverage bottles sold nationwide are being recalled after reports that the lids can violently eject when opened, causing serious injury, including permanent vision loss.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the issue impacts certain Thermos Stainless King Food Jar products along with the Thermos Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottle.
The recall affects approximately 8.1 million products combined.

Consumers Reported Serious Eye and Impact Injuries
Officials say the problem involves the stopper on the containers, which lacks a pressure relief valve in the center.
If perishable food or beverages are left inside for an extended period of time, pressure can build up inside the container. When opened, the stopper can forcefully eject, potentially striking consumers and causing impact or laceration injuries.
According to the recall report, Thermos has received 27 reports involving consumers being struck by ejecting stoppers. Several injuries required medical attention, and three people reportedly suffered permanent vision loss after being hit in the eye.
A similar recall was issued last year for stainless steel water bottles sold at Walmart.

The recall includes:
- Thermos Stainless King 16-ounce Food Jar, model SK3000
- Thermis Stainless King 24-ounce Food Jar, model SK3020

The recalled SK3000 and SK3020 food jars were manufactured before July 2023, while all SK3010 bottles are included in the recall.
Consumers can find the model number printed on the bottom of the container. The Thermos logo is located on the side of the products.
Products Were Sold Nationwide For Years
According to the recall notice, the products were sold for around $30 between March 2008 and July 2024 at in-store and online at retailers, including Walmart, Target, and Amazon, and on the Thermos website.
What Consumers Should Do Now
Consumers are being told to stop using the recalled products immediately.
Thermos says customers with recalled food jars will receive a free replacement pressure relief stopper. Sonsumers will need to throw away the old stopper and submit a photo showing it has been discarded.
Consumers with recalled Sportsman bottles will receive a replacement bottle after returning the recalled product using a prepaid shipping label provided by Thermos.
