An Indiana woman is fortunate to be alive after spending six days in her car following a crash on a Newton County road.

In 2010, a movie starring James Franco was released called 127 Hours. The film depicted the real-life story of Aron Ralston, who went missing for five days while hiking in Utah. Ralston became trapped by a boulder and spent five days in the elements before amputating his own arm with a pocketknife and seeking help. Now, in 2025, it seems another person has gone through a similar struggle right here in Indiana—only this time, it was SIX days.

Indiana Woman Found Alive After Going Missing

According to CBS News, Brieonna Cassell, 41, of Wheatfield, was missing for nearly a week before being found. She was discovered by Johnny Martinez, who was operating equipment in the area for Deyoung Drainage. It was later revealed that she had been driving home from her mother’s house when she veered off the road and into a deep ditch. It was there that she stayed for six days, unbeknownst to the approximately 400 cars that drove by every day.

How Brieonna Cassell Survived the Horrific Event

By now, you might be wondering why Cassell didn’t use her cellphone or how she managed to survive for six days without food or water. According to authorities, Cassell’s cellphone ended up in the back seat, out of reach, during the crash. After some time, the battery likely gave out as well.

When it came to finding nutrition, her methods were crude but successful. She survived for almost a week by using her cardigan to collect water from the ditch to drink. Upon her rescue, Cassell was flown to a Chicago-area hospital for treatment and is currently in the process of recovery.
