Where is Illinois on the list of the MOST Sinful States?
You may be surprised where Illinois ended up on the list of the most sinful states in the US in 2024. Why did the experts rank Illinois where they did? Here are the details...
According to WalletHub's list called the Most Sinful States in America 2024, Illinois is the 19th most sinful state in the country. I would have sworn that Illinois would have been ranked higher on this list, but Illinois ended up 19th behind states like Nevada #1, Louisana #2, California #3, and Florida #4. How did they determine the most sinful states? On the site, they say...
"Red states and blue states may like to point to one another as the source of all that is wrong with the U.S., but the truth is that each of the 50 states has its own virtues and vices...In order to determine the states that most give in to their desires, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 55 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior. Our data set ranges from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the share of the population with gambling disorders."
Illinois ranked 12th in the Anger & Hatred category (meaning they think we have anger problems here in the Land of Lincoln) but Illinois ranked 34th in the Greed category, and 30th in the Excesses & Vices category. As far as states around Illinois, Missouri ranked 22nd on the list, Iowa is 42nd, Wisconsin 36th, and Indiana 35th, so Illinois is certainly the most sinful in this part of the country. Did they get it right?
I think this ranking is accurate based on the factors that they used. If you are going off of just pure "vibes" of whether a state is "sinful" or not I would have put Illinois and Missouri both closer to the top 10 because of Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City. Do you think they got the ranking right?
