Friday After 5 Officially Cancels Entire 2020 Season
BREAKING NEWS: Friday After 5 has announced it is officially canceling the entire 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A couple of weeks ago here at WBKR, we shared news that organizers initially decided to cancel just the first two weeks of the season and hoped to be able to resume the weekly free music festival in early June. However, after continuing to examine the data and guidance from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the CDC, established federal government guidelines and local Owensboro and Daviess County officials, the Board of Directors has decided that it is in the best interest of public health here in Owensboro to officially cancel the 2020 season.
That said, Friday After 5 has already previewed plans for the 2021 season . . . its 25th anniversary season. It will begin May 21st and conclude on Friday, Sept 3rd, 2021.
Full details about the announcement will be shared tomorrow morning on the WBKR morning show. Kirk Kirkpatrick will join us at 7:20am Tuesday with additional details about the season cancellation and what Friday After 5 fans can expect moving forward.
Friday After 5 was created in 1997. The event, billed as "Where the Weekend Begins," draws an estimated 70,000 visitors to downtown Owensboro each season.
