Evansville St. Jude Walk Committee Seeking New Members
The annual St. Jude Walk/Run in Evansville is one of the largest in the entire country and organizers are hoping you are willing to help them make sure that remains the case for years to come.
Evansville St. Jude Walk Committee Looking to Add Additional Members
The 2022 edition of the Walk back in September at Burdette Park was the first in-person walk in three years due to the COVID pandemic, and barring another public health crisis (fingers crossed that doesn't happen again), will continue to be in-person moving forward.
This year's event isn't scheduled to happen until the morning of Sunday, September 24th, but as with any large event like this, the planning process begins several months beforehand. As a matter of fact, committee members have already been meeting since shortly after last year's Walk to line out the 2023 edition. Like with any non-profit event where the people who are planning it volunteer their time to do so, committee members come and go. Some may stay on for a few years, then decide to pursue other interests, while others may jump on board for one or two years and then move on. Currently, the committee has three members trying to organize the event while also trying to manage their everyday jobs, families, and other responsibilities.
Ideally, the committee would like to have as many as nine members on board to help spread responsibilities more evenly and take some of the weight off the shoulders of the current three who are trying to handle everything.
St. Jude is a wonderful facility that has made tremendous strides in the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other life-threatening injuries since opening its doors in 1960 in Memphis, Tennessee. Those treatments have extended the lives of thousands of children around the world including many here in the Tri-State. So, if you have a passion for helping St. Jude continue its mission, you're exactly the type of person the Walk Committee is looking for. If you'd like to jump on board and help out, e-mail Sydney Lightle with ALSAC (the fundraising arm of St. Jude) at Sydney.Lightle@alsac.stjude.org for more information.
