The Daviess County Fire Department hosted a golf scramble, as they do every year to raise money for those less fortunate in the community. Here's the interview, and video, from the check presentation at the Christmas Wish Studio that happened on Monday.

DAVIESS COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT CHECK PRESENTATION

And this year was no exception. We were so happy when they walked through the door on opening day. We were even more excited when they presented the check for the season. They raised $18,000 to help those in need during the 2022 Christmas Wish season. How incredible that it set another fundraising record! We are so grateful for all these brave men and women do all year long to support the mission. There wasn't a dry eye in the house at the Christmas Wish Headquarters when the donation was presented. It was just incredible.

They broke their previous record with 32 teams participating in the golf scramble. Many local businesses stepped up to support the 2022 Golf Scramble, and we want to thank every single one of them. If you see anyone from the Daviess County Fire Department, please thank them for their support.

THE 46TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WISH PROGRAM IS UNDERWAY

Once again, we will be back at Towne Square North here in Owensboro. We're located between Big Lots and Buffalo Wild Wings in the shopping center. Thanks to the owners and stores at Towne Square North for their incredible generosity and commitment to supporting our mission. We're open Monday thru Friday from 9-6 and Saturday from 11-4. You can help ensure every child in the tri-state gets a visit from Santa.

OVER 1,600 CHRISTMAS WISH LETTERS RECEIVED TO DATE

Before we get to the hottest toys, the trend with this year's letters is alarming. 70% of the letter submissions are asking for clothes. 25% are asking for simple things like socks and underwear. Many are just asking for personal hygiene products. In my seven years as the director of Christmas Wish, this is the most requests I've seen. We offer new winter coats to any child that needs one but only supply clothing if we have some on hand. We focus more on toys for children and a Christmas meal for the family. If you can donate socks, underwear, or pajamas it would be greatly appreciated.

Are you looking for a way to spread some holiday cheer? It's time to start a new holiday tradition and bring joy to families in need this holiday season. There are several volunteer opportunities for businesses, students, and families with Christmas Wish. Here's what's involved and how to sign up.

There's no better feeling than helping those in need this holiday season. Maybe you can't afford to adopt a family, drop off toys or make a monetary donation. Because times are tough, it's understandable. If you've always wanted to be involved with the Christmas Wish program, there are other ways you can help. You can always devote time by volunteering and helping those less fortunate.

HOW TO SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER?

We always need volunteers every season at Christmas Wish, but you may not know that each year we also have days or nights set aside for families/businesses (15 or more people) to come and help at Christmas Wish. Some will bring pizza and make it a fun outing. Business employees volunteer to bond. Everyone who volunteers wants to give back. Your efforts give over 5000 children an amazing Christmas morning.

If you have a business or family that would like to reserve a spot, we'd love to have you. Email Barb Birgy at christmaswish@wbkr.com to inquire about open days/times to volunteer. Christmas Wish is a magical place to volunteer, and we can't wait to meet you there!
