Was radio playing better music in 1998?

I wasn’t able to go “Back to the 90’s” last week, so I’ll try to do two this week.  I love taking some of my favorite aspects of popular culture and comparing them to the way things were when I was growing.  This time in the year 1998 I was only 14 years old and I wonder if I had it better than today’s 14-year-olds.  This week, we’ll look at RADIO.  Take a look at the 10 biggest songs on the radio TODAY and compare them to the 10 biggest songs on the radio from 15 years ago.  When do you think radio was better?

When we looked at radio singles from 2013 VS. 1993 a few months ago, I actually put my vote in the 2013 group.  This one is REALLY hard for me to call.  There's actually three songs on the 1998 list that I can't immediately recall without hearing them...  But the modern list also has Taylor Swift on it, which makes me cringe.  My gut instinct was to say 1998, as I think "Truly Madly Deeply," "Gone Till November," and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit' it" are all GREAT songs that have stood the test of time, I think we'll still be hearing songs like "Stay," "When I Was Your Man," and "Thrift Shop" 15 years from NOW.  I think this time, I'm giving the tie to 2013.
