Apollo JAG & Local Realtors Host Creative Fundraiser for Owensboro’s Habitat for Humanity

Each year, Apollo High School students in Melody Wallace's JAG class participate in a fundraiser to benefit Owensboro's Habitat for Humanity.

This particular project began a couple of years ago after an impromptu meeting of the minds, including the fabulous Mrs. Wallace, Shawna Kellems, a sales consultant for Jagoe Homes and Habitat board member, and Habitat Executive Director Jeremy Stephens. "Jeremy had an idea of incorporating birdhouses for sale and thought it would be fun to list them like homes," Shawna told me.

Thirteen teams of kids were assigned realtor mentors to help them design really cool birdhouses with different themes.  This year, the teams have created "Welcome" signs (keep scrolling to see photos.) The realtors will be selling raffle tickets for $10 each with all proceeds benefitting Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro. No one knows competition like these folks!

The JAG students look forward to this contest every year, supporting the mission of Habitat. "Seeking to put love into action, Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County brings people together to build homes, community and hope through housing solutions of home ownership, community development and critical home repair." 

These students are the perfect example of putting love into action. Their mentors are committed to helping these generous young folks make a difference in the community.
