5 Evansville Residents Who Should Run for President [HUMOR]
To say this current election cycle has been a mess is a gross understatement and an insult to messes. While it's too late for any of these individuals to enter the fray this year, who's to say they couldn't make a run 2020 or beyond.
Before we get too deep into this, and I wish I didn't have to type this, but considering the mentality of today's society that seems to be seeking something to get mad about, please know this is meant to be humorous. This is not an attempt to belittle the election process or the importance of this, or any other election. It's just meant to be something fun in an effort to lighten the mood of what has been a nasty campaign season. If you don't find it funny, well that's on me for not making it funny. If you get mad after reading it, then I don't know what to tell you.
<Sigh> Anyway...
What I would like to see in a President is someone I feel like I can trust. Someone that will make the tough decisions when necessary, and isn't afraid to not only work with everyone for the common good despite the fact they may have completely opposing viewpoints, but respects the fact they have opposing views. It seems impossible in this day and age, but I guy can dream, can't he?
When it comes to people right here in Evansville, there are a few public figures I feel fit most of those qualities. For example:
Don Mattingly
He may not have much knowledge of foreign policy, but Don Mattingly is a nationally recognized and beloved figure thanks to his days with the New York Yankees. Despite being placed on a pedestal by baseball fans young and old, you're hard-pressed to find a more down-to-Earth guy. Mattingly seems like the kind of guy who would want to host a policy discussion in the backyard with burgers on the grill and a cooler full of beer. Maybe if that's how things were done now, some of our issues would be resolved a little quicker.
Lilly King
Obviously Lilly doesn't currently meet the age required for a run at the White House, but her laser focus and determination to win would certainly be a good quality for a stint as Commander in Chief. Plus, we already know she's not afraid to put Russia in their place.
Mater Dei Football Coach Mike Goebel
Maybe I'm a little biased here since I graduated from Mater Dei, but Mike Goebel's track record as both a football coach and wrestling coach speaks for itself. The dude just wins. His wrestling teams won 12 state titles in his 29 year run as head coach, a state record. He holds the national record through the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association for winning percentage in wrestling at 97.4 percent, and this season he became only the second head football coach in the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference to win 200 games with the same team.
On top of that, you're hard pressed to find a current or former player that has something negative to say about him. He demands a lot from his players, but provides them the lessons they need to reach the goal. Plus, he already has experience in politics having served as a Vanderburgh County Councilman.
14 News Anchor Randy Moore
You want someone you can trust in the Oval Office, right? Who better than a journalist who has dedicated his life to finding the truth. Moore has been one of the more trusted names and faces in Evansville news for decades. When people want to know what's going on in the world, and believe what they're hearing, they look to someone like Randy Moore.
Evansville Otter Mascot Evan the Otter
Let's be honest, could Evan be any worse than the choices we have now?
