There's a recent list of the rudest states in America. Where Indiana and Kentucky rank on this list may or may not surprise you.

Rude people are everywhere, let's be honest. You tend to find more of them in bigger cities because everything is more fast-paced, people are in a hurry and tend to only look out for themselves. However, even in smaller towns, you will still run into a few rude people. There's really no escaping them. When you think of Kentucky and Indiana, you typically don't associate the states with rudeness. Southern hospitality is an honored tradition amongst most of these states' residents. That being said, you're going to have jerks everywhere you go. Your chances of running into those people vary from state to state.

The website, Zippia, ran a summary recently, to determine the niceness and rudeness of each state, and the findings are interesting. In order to determine which states are the rudest, they looked at 4 areas:

  • Percent of rude drivers
  • Average tip
  • Amount of cursing to customer service agents
  • How rude the rest of the country finds the state

As it turns out, the term "Southern hospitality" is a real thing, according to this study. Even though you will hear a lot of people say the passive-aggressive line "Bless your heart"...which is not a compliment. Trust me.

So, where does Indiana and Kentucky rank on the list of the rudest states in America? Let's find out.

Indiana

Indiana didn't do too badly on this list. They were ranked as the 28th rudest state in the country. Out of 50 states, that's a decent spot to be at. I think it's safe to say that the further away from the bigger cities, the further from the rudeness you will be.

Kentucky

In terms of this list, Kentucky has a lot to brag about. The state was actually ranked as one of the nicest states in the country. Kentucky comes in at number 46 on this list. Aside from Louisville and Lexington, I think you'll run into a lot of nice people throughout Kentucky. Especially in the city of Murray, which has been named one of the friendliest towns in the country in the past.

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.
