Best of the Best Haunted Destinations

USA Today is counting down the 10 "Best Haunted Destinations in America" they have 20 destinations that are in the running.  Here's what they have to say about the contest:

The United States is filled with purportedly haunted locations, each with its own ghost stories and paranormal occurrences, ready for visitors to experience and come back with their own stories! Vote once per day until Monday, September 12 at noon ET.

One location that made the top 20 isn't too far from the Tri-State!

Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Waverly Hills Sanatorium is in the running for the top 10 best-haunted destinations in America.  Located in Louisville, Kentucky Waverly is infamous around our area for being extremely haunted.

Part of the reason for this reputation has to do with Waverly's history. The numbers vary, but it's said that thousands died at Waverly Hills Sanatorium as it was originally a tuberculosis hospital.  After the tuberculosis epidemic was over, it was turned into a geriatric medical facility.  In 1981 Waverly Hills closed its doors.  Now the Waverly Hills Historical Society works hard to help preserve the historic landmark, and by utilizing its creepy history they're able to raise funds for their nonprofit which helps with the preservation of the building.
