Vanderburgh Humane Society Offering Barn Cats for Free

The Vanderburgh County Humane Society is almost consistently overrun with cats, and while most of them are the kind that love to crawl up on your lap and get some love, they also have several that aren't naturally as loving, but can serve another purpose.

The shelter has a number of feral cats that would be more than happy to come live in your barn and take care of any mouse problem you may have. The cats are free, however, according to their post on Facebook, there are some stipulations, and things you need to consider:

• Barn cats are typically feral or semi-feral. These will not be cats that you can pick up & love on.

• All VHS barn cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, ear tipped, and accustomed to living outdoors.

• Barn cats must be kept in a crate or large cage for a period of 2 weeks while they get acclimated to your property and learn where their food source is. You must provide food, water, & litterbox in the cage during that time. VHS can loan you a crate if you do not have one.

• We will only send out barn cats in pairs or trios. No singles.

While their is no adoption fee for the cats, the VHS notes they "typically have to spend $50-$100 on each barn cat's services," and would appreciate a monetary donation of any kind to help cover their costs.
