The Weeknd Teams Up With Marvel to Release ‘Starboy’ Comic Book
The Weeknd and Marvel have unveiled the new collab the singer has been teasing.
After previewing the release last week, yesterday (Oct. 7), the XO crooner was at New York Comic-Con for the big reveal of his new Starboy comic book (above). While at the Manhattan event, the singer signed autographs and posed for pictures.
The idea behind the character has been in Weeknd's head for a while. Last November, he spoke about possibly doing a comic on his alter ego while talking about his album of the same name during an interview with Zane Lowe. "Starboy is the next chapter in this chronicle, this saga," Abel said. "I guess this is the fourth chapter. He's a character that we created. It's so funny, we want to create a comic out of him as well [...] He's a cool, dope character that makes appearances a lot on the album. He's definitely made his appearance in different records in the past as well. He's a more braggadocious character that we all have inside of us."
Marvel has linked up with a number of urban artists recently via their variant covers. In the past, they’ve collabed with everyone from Nas, Dr. Dre and Missy Elliott, to Kevin Gates and Chance The Rapper.
The Starboy series will be dropping in 2018.
