States Try Bartering Most Prized Icons for Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear – Kentuckians Say “No Thx”
In the past week, the USA has undergone a multitude of changes and people, quite frankly, are under a lot of stress. COVID-19 has ripped through our economy, our livelihoods, our social interactions, and our day-to-day lives. And while our nation's leaders are out trying to patch and repair the circumstances, we - as good citizens - have been asked to sit at home and wait it out. And we all know how THAT'S going... (I'm literally wishing I had a bird feeder to stare at some birds eating right now.)
One government leader has stood out among many many many not so great ones. The newly elected Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, holds a daily press conference at 5 PM EST each day (including weekends) to update the people about changes, and remind them all about social distancing, as well as answering questions from Kentuckians. His list of key players include his ASL interpreter Virginia Moore, "Kenneth with the slides," the 1918 Flu Pandemic Philadelphia VS St. Louis graph, and his water bottle.
Now, remember when I said earlier that we (good citizens) were asked to stay at home and social distance? Well, turns out, sitting at home with a lot of free time paves the way for two things: anxiety and creativity. Don't worry - Andy's daily at 5 is there to ease the anxiety. But what to do with all this creativity? In classic internet style, a funny factory was born. A central hub of adoring Andy Beshear funnies called andy beshear memes for social distancing teens popped up and the popularity of the group has grown exponentially. At almost 100,000 members, it's a bright beacon in a dark world right now.
Kentuckians have described Governor Beshear as a warm hug, a hot cup of tea, snuggling in a warm bed on a cold morning, and the dad you never had - among other things. And, the rest of the United States has started to take notice of Kentucky's cool dad.
In fact, "delegates" from other states have started offering up key iconic people, places, and things from their home states (like The Statue of Liberty, NCAA championships, steamed crabs, The Bunny Ranch, and even Santa Claus) to trade for one Andy Beshear. But Kentuckians aren't having it.
Luckily, because of our proximity here in the tri-state, negotiations are being done and we are soon hoping to merge with our friends across the river. Welcome to AndyAna, y'all. I'm from Owensboro, so I have duel citizenship. Hoping everyone can join me soon. As the now-famous Governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear would say, "If it makes people smile right now, I'm for it."
Here are a few of the attempted trades thus far. As you can tell, Kentuckians, for the time being, are opting to keep their Super Dad.
