Snake Encounters In & Around Owensboro (PHOTOS)
Raise your hand if you are terrified of snakes. Honest confession...I have two hands raised and my feet. Angel here and I do not like snakes NOPE NOT AT ALL. Lots of my friends shared pictures of snakes they found right in their yards here in Owensboro. After seeing these I may be relocating.
I had no idea that there are 33 different types of snakes right here in Kentucky. I was relieved to find out on four of those are venomous. However, I am pretty darn sure I would never get close enough to one to find out.
According to the University of Kentucky; Venomous snakes include the Copperhead, Western Cottonmouth (water moccasin), Timber Rattlesnake, and Pigmy Rattlesnake. While venomous snakes should be respected and approached with caution, most snakes encountered in Kentucky are harmless and beneficial because they eat mice and other rodents.
Growing up I always thought that snakes were only found in the country. Not true. Most snacks are adaptable. They can grow and change with their environment. A lot of snakes will be driven away when developers come into an area that maybe wasn't inhabited but different snakes that can live around people will be just fine.
Many of the residents here in Owensboro-Daviess County and a few surrounding counties are proving that snakes are pretty adaptable and just want to be a part of your everyday life LOL...NO THANK YOU.
