Some data revealed a list of the best places to raise a family in the United States, and I was surprised by how Indiana was represented there.

As someone who was born and raised here in Indiana, and plan to repeat that with my children, I can honestly say that I'm proud of my home. Granted, I know everyone's situation is different growing up, but I don't think that Indiana is a bad place to raise a family. Aside from the bipolar weather we have here, Indiana has a lot to offer families. However, it seems like outsiders disagree.

Recently, Indiana was named one of the least fun states in America. Now, another study has revealed the best places to raise a family. I was surprised that there were only two Indiana cities on this list of almost 200 cities throughout the country. Before I get into that, I must first say that I believe that there are way more than two cities in Indiana that are great to raise a family. I mean if it was good enough to be Lincoln's boyhood home, it is good enough for everyone else.

Best Places to Raise a Family in America

WalletHub's list of Best & Worst Places to Raise a Family ranks these cities with the following metrics:

With families in mind, WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities based on 46 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics, such as the cost of housing, the quality of local school and health-care systems, and the opportunities for fun and recreation. While obviously not perfect — given personal preferences and the limitations of publicly available data — our findings will hopefully give movers a sense of their options.

Out of over 180 cities on this list, as I said, there were only two Indiana cities...and they were nowhere near the top.

16 Indiana Towns with Dirty-Sounding Names

A majority of these towns were given their names in the mid-to-late 1800s as settlers making their way across the country found unclaimed plots of land and decided to make them their own. While I imagine they thought the names they came up with were innocent, and perhaps a tribute to something in their lives, pop culture has warped our minds to the point since then that we can't help but think of something about the town that was never intended by its founders. Take a look at this list. I guarantee there's at least one name that will make you chuckle.
