Love Sushi? Try This Easy Sushi-Roll-in-a-Bowl Recipe
I LOVE sushi but getting it to-go for a family meal doesn't always work with my budget or schedule. But, I found a recipe that I really like and bonus, it's really REALLY easy.
It's call Sushi Roll in a Bowl. I served mine on a plate so I could mix and match each bite but you certainly can serve it in a bowl! And, this recipe is totally up to you to customize however you wish.
Here are the basic ingredients I used.
- 2 cups white rice (sticky rice is best but white rice works just fine)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (optional)
- 2 tsp salt (optional)
- 2 cups water
- 2 packages imitation crab meat (cut into chunks)
- 1 package smoked salmon (I got the 4-oz package)
- 1 cucumber peeled and chopped in thin strips
- 1 graded carrot
- 1 avocado cut into strips
- Yum Yum sauce
- Black sesame seeds
- Soy sauce/wasabi/pickled ginger
So, here's where it takes effort. Make the rice to package specifications. I used my Instant Pot. Olive oil and salt are optional but make your rice taste so much better.
Okay... there it is. DONE!
Arrange your ingredients on the plate however you want. I put the graded carrots on top of my rice because I thought it looked pretty. The cream cheese, crab meat, smoked salmon, cucumber, avocado, and yum yum sauce were all on the side. And I topped my plate with black sesame seeds because, they look "authentic."
Start to finish... 20 minutes. And, if you don't use a ton of shrimp sauce or cream cheese, it's low in fat and calories too.
And, don't forget you can customize your sushi roll however you want see a starter list below. Just be very careful if you are using raw fish ingredients to choose restaurant quality sushi-grade products.
