Local gyms are taking extra precautions to prevent COVID-19 spreading.

Many gyms and boutique fitness facilities have announced a change in hours and class numbers to ensure gym-goers stay healthy. So far, several of those gyms have announced their changes via social media pages. These include Orangetheory Fitness, Cyclebar, and the YMCA.

As of 3/16/20 at 9 a.m., the statements are as follows.

Orangetheory Fitness:

Dear OTF Evansville Family,

With the recent developments surrounding COVID-19, we are taking additional steps to ensure a safe space for our members, team & community. Our goal is to limit the spread of the virus & keep our studio open & operating as close to normal as possible. The following changes will begin Tuesday, March 17th & will continue until further notice:

▪️Classes will be limited in capacity to create more distance between participants. We will run all of our classes as 3Gs, which allows for a capacity of 18 per class during this time.

▪️To keep our class times consistent, & maintain the required 15 minute class intervals for more cleaning time, the 5:00am, 6:05am, & 7:10am will be ran as 45 minute classes.

▪️We will temporarily suspend the use of reservation cards. The front desk will have a sheet & you will be able to let them know where you would like to start (only odd numbered treadmills & even numbered rowers/weight floor stations).

▪️We ask that you show up no more than 10 minutes prior to your class. This will allow for fewer people in the lobby before & after classes.

▪️The Dri-Tri &Transformation Challenge party are postponed until further notice.

We are working diligently as coaches & staff to maximize the number of classes within the schedule to help offset the limited capacity. Starting Tuesday, you will notice additional class times throughout the week & on the weekend.

Please do your best to limit your choice to one class a day. We know you have busy schedules, but it will really make a difference if your name is only on one class list.

If you have the flexibility to take classes at off-peak times, we ask that you consider doing so for fellow members who are unable.

If you are not feeling well, please stay home & communicate with the front desk.

We truly appreciate all of you. Thank you for your patience, and trust that we are doing everything in our power to keep you safe & healthy while keeping the doors open for you. If you have questions, please let us know!

We love ya & we mean it,

Tyson, Whitney & the entire OTF Team

Our commitment to the safety of our staff and members is our highest priority. As such, we have been closely tracking developments of the Covid-19 virus through the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). Effective immediately, we will be limiting class size to create six feet of space between riders. This will require us to change some bikes you have reserved. You will be notified via email if your bike number has been changed and we will do our best to accommodate everyone.

We will continue with our heightened cleaning protocol and continue providing disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer for before and after class. To help you stay safe and healthy in the studio we ask that you wash your hands before and after class for 20 seconds and avoid touching your eyes and mouth without first washing your hands. Please continue to wipe down the equipment and know that we disinfect them as well after class. If you are sick and/or have a fever please stay home….now is not a time to sweat it out.

We will continue to closely monitor developments through the CDC and ISDH and will be prepared to take future actions as needed or required.

YMCA of Southwestern Indiana:

At the YMCA, the health and well-being of our staff, members, program participants, and community is our utmost priority. As we navigate the rapidly evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) situation together, we wanted to share an important update with you.

Like many other organizations in our community right now, we find ourselves continually evaluating our available resources. For the Y, our most valuable resource is our staff. With a varying workforce trained in educational protocols, child safety, and lifesaving skills, we are in a unique position to help during this time when school is out of session, but we recognize that demand for childcare services and activities far exceeds what we can provide to everyone. As an organization that responds to community needs, we feel our resources should be directed where our community needs it the most during this time, which are to essential community personnel like healthcare workers and emergency responders.

We have partnered with Ascension St Vincent and Deaconess Health System to be able to provide childcare services during this time to their essential personnel, and with the cooperation of the EVSC, we will be using a few specific school sites to do so.

Given the need to re-allocate some of our human resources for the greater good of our community, we will be cancelling the following programming.

Over March 23rd-27th, we will be cancelling Spring Break Camps including Full Day camps through our Childcare Services branch, 2-Day Spring Break Sports Camps for basketball, volleyball, soccer, and gymnastics and our $10 Open House Clinics for basketball, volleyball, and soccer.

As we monitor the local threat level, there may be further changes to programming. To stay informed, we encourage you to regularly check the YMCA of Southwestern IN's website (www.ymcaswin.org) for changes to program and activity schedules along with the CDC (www.cdc.gov/coronavirus) and Indiana Department of Health (www.in.gov/isdh) websites for important updates and safety information. The YMCA will also send notifications through email, mobile app, and right here on our Facebook page.

We ask for your grace and continued patience as we continue to maneuver through these unprecedented circumstances. Let's all work together to keep everyone healthy and safe.

Let all that you do be done in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:14
